the EndlessThere are seven beings that aren't gods. Who existed before humanity dreamed of gods and will exist after the last god is dead. They are called The Endless. They are named, and are, the anthropomorphic projections of, in order of age: Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium. Destiny -in the beginning, he was. And "the word" was the first of many in his book. Death -perhaps the most cheerful of her family, and at the same time, the most serious. We all meet her eventually, even her own brothers and sisters. Dream -once Morpheus was Dream, now his son, Orpheus is. He is the Lord Shaper of our dreams. Destruction -tired of his "job", he now roams in search of meaning for himself. Desire -"Desire is of medium height. It is unlikely that any portrait will ever do Desire justice, since to see her (or him) is to love her (or him),- passionately, painfully, to the exclusion of all else" -Neil Gaiman Despair -Desire's sister and twin. It is said that scattered through Despair's domain are a multitude of tiny windows, hanging in the void. Each window looks out onto a different scene, being, in our world, a mirror. Sometimes you will look into a mirror and feel the eyes of Despair upon you, feeling her hook catch and snag on your heart. Delirium -once Delight. Tori is said to resemble her at times, Neil says they steal from each other at times. -DeLiRiuM -A really good place to learn about Del. ![]() |
